Intern Farewells

My favorite season is slowly coming to a close. What a whirlwind this summer has been. I can't wait to write my giant recap for you. As Labor Day approaches, I'm happy to announce I will be back to blogging regularly.

But before that happens, we have to say goodbye to our wonderful summer interns. We were so grateful to have them join our team and can't wait to watch them fly in their careers.

------
Leahi:

Hi all! It’s Leahi again. I am tuning in for my last blog post of my internship. It’s been a busy month and a half here at LNPR. But I am thankful for the opportunity to be immersed into this industry. As I wrap up my final days here, I look forward to using the skills I learned here to my advantage. As I mentioned I learned a ton! One of the most important things I have learned is to be extremely detailed and critical of my own work. Before submitting things to be sure that they are triple checked and ready for approval. Also, making sure that it would make sense to not only me but someone else reading on or looking at it.

My favorite part of the internship was just researching and learning more about different magazines, blogs, and media outlets in general. Curating ways to be ahead of the curve and look for opportunities. It is a skill that is transferable to all careers. My least favorite part, would be looking for contact information for editors. Sometimes they aren’t open to the public and it can be incredibly frustrating not being able to find information needed for what seemingly looked like a perfect opportunity.

Future interns, never be afraid to ask questions and always, always, always check your work. If you’re working with another intern use each other for sources of information. It never hurts to learn more and expand your horizons or be open to other opinions and opportunities. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a deep breath and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Also, Create is the best place for lunch If you’re looking for a healthy afternoon pick me up!
Signing off for the last time! Best of luck!

Leahi

Jenna:

Hey everyone! This is sadly my last post on the intern diaries as my internship at Lynette Nicole PR has come to and end. I’m getting ready to return to Penn State to continue my studies in public relations and I know that my experiences as an intern this summer will only help me to be a better student and eventually a better public relations practitioner.

I definitely learned a lot more than I expected to as a first time intern. From talking to friends who have interned at other companies, I expected to be getting a lot of coffee and getting a backseat view into the world of public relations. However, my internship Lynette Nicole PR gave me a lot of responsibility and valuable experience. Some of the most important skills I learned at LNPR would have to be how to write a pitch and how to find editors and outlets to target. I know that these are skills that I will carry with me throughout my future in public relations and ones that will give me an advantage while looking for internships next summer. I also learned how to work in a professional environment. This was the first real job I’ve ever had. Through this experience I’ve learned how important it is today attention to details, communicate effectively, and not be afraid to ask questions.

My favorite part of my internship would have to be getting to work on and assist the various events LNPR has thrown for our clients this summer. I got to help organize a media class for Yo Yoga!, an opening party for XO Marshmallow and a s’mores competition for XO Marshmallow. I also really enjoyed getting to witness photo-shoots and a segment filming for our clients like the Well + Good photoshoot for Yo Yoga! and their showcase on Cheddar TV. My least favorite task would have to be searching for editor emails. There were some editors who don’t publicly share their emails. It was really frustrating to scour the web for hours to only have to give up in the end because their emails were actually impossible to find.

My biggest piece of advice for future interns would be to take your time and pay close attention to the details. It’s easy to make mistakes when you have a heavy work load and are stressed about being able to finish everything. It’s important to take a deep breath, slow down, and triple check your work.

Excuse us while we go drown our sadness of them leaving in a bottle of wine.

Lynette

PR Intern Diaries: Leahi x 2

Good morning! It is FREEZING here in NYC today. NY, let's get your shit together before I head to the beach to work for 4 days. I'd like to maybe sit outside? I can't believe I am wearing my winter running leggings with a sweatshirt and sneakers right now. Clearly ranting because it's August and this is my FAVORITE season ever.

Anyway, as promised, here are two blog posts from Leahi. She's talking working from home and her first month at Lynette Nicole PR!

------

1. It has been a interesting and very busy couple of weeks here at LNPR. With the Fancy Food Show in full swing, we were all separated for the time being and had to work remotely. This was a challenge especially not working from home before. We started with a conference call at 9 AM to go over what needed to be done for that day. We reviewed the importance of staying on top of all our memos and being sure to fill them out with accuracy. We were online all day and in constant communication.

The best way to be effective while working from home is to set up like we usually would in the office. Find a desk, get out everything we need, refrain from checking sites like Facebook, and keep the email and instant messaging browser open. It is a lot harder to do this in a public place as distractions are multiplied and intensified. Thankfully, I had my dorm room to myself. I put on some music and sat at my desk and got to work. Its best to treat it like a normal work day and actually could be more effective because you can hone in and focus.

It was a great learning week here at LNPR and I look forward to the next week!

2. Hi again! This month has been quite an experience. It has been a learning curve for sure and I have really been tossed into the mix of things. I have learned that staying on my toes is vital to this job. It is all about getting things done but also with great quality. I have been able to hone my skills a bit and learn how to do things the right way and with efficiency.

My favorite tasks would have to be more on the creative side. I love researching item for grab bags and things for events. It lets me be more creative and use my imagination even more. One of my least favorite tasks would be trying to find emails online when they aren’t on the database we use. It gets really frustrating when editors and influences move around and emails can be lost.

In the next month I just hope to learn some more transferable skills for work after I leave. Learning a lot of the things I have, have helped me hone down some skills that are necessary for other jobs as well. Ultimately, I just want to learn as much as possible! After all, this is my last year in school and I just want to learn as much as possible before entering the real world.

That’s all for now!

PR Intern Diaries: Jenna x 2

Happy Monday! I just got back from a long working weekend in Boston so I could celebrate my cousins wedding and go bridesmaid dress shopping with one of my bests! We're playing catch up on blog posts so today and tomorrow will be double the posts. Here's Jenna talking working from home and hitting her 2 month mark.

------
1. Last week working at LNPR was different than usual. Lynette had to go to Chicago for the opening of XO Marshmallow’s Cafe and also had to attend Fancy Food in Manhattan. This meant I was working from home, a first for me as an intern. Since we don’t work in a traditional office environment, working at home wasn’t too different, but there were a few things I needed to do in order to successfully make it through my day.

It was really important for me to find a quiet place to do my work so I could remain focused on the tasks at hand. My first day working from home it was a little difficult, as my house was being shown, and I ended having to travel to a few different cafes to try and find one with WiFi that wasn't too loud or busy. As someone who is easily distracted, working in a cafe was a little more difficult for me than working in an apartment or house, but it’s a skill I need to work on as PR practitioners are always on the go and don’t always have ideal places to work.

Something else I needed to do in order to successfully make it through my day was to make sure I stayed in contact with Lynette. It was a little difficult and there were a few miscommunications, but by my second day working at home I think I got it figured out. Again, this is another really important skill I’m going to have to master in order to be successful in PR. It’s a lot easier to communicate when you’re in the same room as someone, but in the busy world of PR that isn’t always going to be the case.

2. I can’t believe that two months has already passed in my internship! This summer has really been flying by. This month I’ve really learned to take my time with what I’m working on. I’ve learned to triple, even quadruple, check my work, as tiny mistakes are hard to catch. I’ve also learned to not be afraid to ask questions, it’s better to get clarification than to do something wrong.

My favorite task this month has probably been working on one of our clients, XO Marshmallow. XO Marshmallow recently opened a marshmallow cafe in Roger’s Park, Chicago.  Working on XO Marshmallow has been really fun because they’ve gotten a ton of press and have even gone viral. It was so exciting coming into work to see my piled up with all the new press they got over the weekends. It was also really cool to scroll down my Facebook feed and see a video of them pop up. They had a opening party which was fun to help plan, as I really have started to enjoy event planning and are having a S’mores contest in August which I’ve really enjoyed working on so far.

My least favorite task has go to be searching for new press in google. I can’t deny that scrolling through a bunch of webpages, a lot of it being spam, gives me a headache. In the remainder of my internship I still want to improve my attention to detail, as it’s not perfect yet and I still feel like I’ve been making quite a few mistakes. I know that it's crucial that all the information we send out to editors is perfect, so hopefully I’ll get there soon.

------

Tomorrow you'll hear from Leahi and I'll be posting a recap soon about ALL of the things I've been up to the past few months.

Lynette

PR Intern Diaries: Jenna

Happy Friday everyone! Our intern Jenna tackled a topic this week that everyone deals with- making mistakes. They are inevitable as we are all human. However, it's how you proceed that makes a difference. Slowing down and paying attention to the task at hand can be helpful, as well as asking questions. One of the biggest ways to avoid silly mistakes is to take tons of notes. I remember when I was an intern, I filled up tons of notebooks and note pads because I wrote down everything someone said!

Here's what Jenna had to say:

--------
Hey everyone! This week I wanted to write about something I’m pretty good at, making mistakes. This is my first public relations experience ever, so of course I’m not perfect. As someone who considers themselves to be a perfectionist, this is a little hard to deal with, but I’ve begin to come to terms with it.

I’ve learned that as interns, we’re not meant to be kick ass practitioners right away. We’re really still little babies learning how to walk and talk in the world of PR. We’re also still students, and while we’re here to assist and help out where we can, we’re also mainly here to learn. And of course, everyone says that some of the most valuable learning experience is gained through making mistakes.

Some of the most important lessons I’ve learned from making mistakes is to double check, then triple check, and even check a fourth time to make sure all the information is correct. I can admit to getting a little sloppy and rushed when feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work I have. I’ve also learned how important it is to listen to criticism. At first, my pitches were a little rough, and understandably so as I’ve never written one before. Now I can really see myself improving and even got my first reply back from and editor today!

Finally, through all the mistakes I’ve made so far, I’ve learned how to handle making mistakes. It’s impossible to be perfect all of the time, so learning how to overcome and harness the disappointing feeling into usable, beneficial energy will be a really helpful skill. I like to take deep breathes to recenter my mind and help me to keep going. A bubble bath and watching your favorite guilty please movie, Clueless for me, after work never hurts either!

PR Intern Diaries: Leahi

Happy Wednesday everyone! Hope you all had a great holiday weekend and are ready to grind for the rest of this short week. I promise a fun update from me is coming soon (including a recap of a new wine company, running recaps and new gear review) but until then, here is another update from Lynette Nicole PR intern Leahi!
------
Happy Thursday! It has been another week at LNPR and it is still as crazy as ever. There has been a lot going on and it has, as I said before, been a huge learning curve. This week I balanced a lot of different things and it has really helped me gain a little more of a grasp as to what is going on.

Early in the week, there was a ton of scheduling to do as well as memo updates, which is a good thing, knowing that our clients are getting some press! Working closely with the companies that I do allows me to see a side that the consumer doesn’t always see. Knowing about all the hard work that goes into these companies makes me appreciate them all the much more!

Later in the week I was able to do some product deliveries which was also fun because I got to make the connect between the company and the outlets that are interested. It really gave a personal touch to what we do. I got to see another side and gain a bigger appreciation for, again, all the hard work that goes into this. Its been a fun week, and I am still really exited for the weeks to come!

PR Intern Diaries - Jenna & Leahi

Happy Friday! This weeks PR intern diaries is a double since both posts were so similar! First you'll hear from Jenna, and under that is Leahi!
-------

I’ve been having a lot of fun at my internship at Lynette Nicole PR. I’ve been here for a little over a month so far and I’ve again a lot of valuable experience that I’m sure I’ll carry with me into my future in public relations. One of the most important things I’ve learned at LNPR is how important paying attention to details is. It’s very important to make sure all the work is cohesive, clear, and concise. You want to make everything is as clear as possible for the client so there is no confusion and you keep them happy and satisfied.

So far my favorite task has been helping to plan the various events LNPR has thrown for our clients. I love helping to find influencers to invite to the events as well as doing all the menial tasks for events such as coming up with supplies we need and making sure the guest list and RSVP list are up to date. I think that event planning is something I could really be interested in pursing in my future. My least favorite task at LNPR would have to be searing for editor and writer emails. While you can find many emails through Cision  some editors and writers don’t freely give out their emails. I’ve spent many hours frustrated searching through different editors and writer’s websites and social media accounts scouring for their emails with no luck.

In the next month of my internship I really want to improve my pitch writing. Recently I’ve been writing a lot of pitches for LNPR, and while they’re certainly not perfect, I really feel like I’ve started to improve. I hope to get really good at writing pitches as they’re so important in getting press for clients in PR and I know that it’s a skill I will carry with me throughout my career in public relations. (Jenna)
------

Hello again! Its me, Leahi!

Week 2 has come to a conclusion and it’s been crazy busy! As I said last week I was thrown into everything, which I loved, and created an awesome opportunity for me to learn. This week I am starting to get the hang of things, although, there is so much to learn. I have picked up this week that PR is very detailed oriented. There are so many things that I miss or don’t see because I don’t have that trained eye quite yet. Thankfully, Lynette is kind in reminding me to pay attention to the little things.

There has been a ton of balancing things this week between work and my own social life. There is no way I could get it all done and organized without writing it down. Lynette really enjoys embracing wellness even while working. Which I totally appreciate! Especially being an athlete in the middle of a transition to the working world. We took a smoothie break and it reminded me that wellness is all about balance. Whether it be work life balance, food and sweets, or exercise and rest.

I was also able to work on the Self.com call sheet which gave me an inside look at what is going on at one of the shoots. It was cool just to know that I was working with a company that I see almost every day online and on the magazine stands. The world of PR has taught me so much in so little of time.

That’s all for now!

PR Intern Diaries: Jenna

Happy Wednesday! For today's PR Intern Diaries, Jenna is talking about her favorite resources.

------

Interning in public relations involves a lot of research and finding things online. Luckily, I’ve been able to use a few resources that have really helped me out. The most useful resource for me has been Cision. Cision is an online resource for public relations practitioners that allows you to look up editors, as well as outlets, to pitch to or to invite to events. It helps you to generate lists related to your client and makes it super easy to get all their information. I’m constantly looking up emails for editors and influencers, so getting them all in one place is super helpful. I also use social media sites, like Instagram and Twitter to find contact information for editors and influencers.  I recently subscribed to the website, Help a Reporter Out, which is another must have resource. Help a Reporter Out sends emails periodically throughout the day with lists of articles reporters are writing and need sources for. It makes it easy to find placements for your clients. So far, I’ve only pitched one story from Help a Reporter Out but I’m sure I’ll be using it a lot in the future.

In the future I’m sure that I’m going to continue to utilize these resources. Once I’m officially working in PR I know that I’ll be finding editors to pitch to all the time of of them. I also started reading a website, after Lynette shared it with me, called PR Couture. The website gives a lot of tips and insight into the world of public relations. It even has a section that shows available jobs in PR. I definitely want to keep reading and stay up to date with PR Couture to get all the information that I can.

Mini 10K Recap

After a rough week- emotionally and physically- I woke up bright and early Saturday morning for the Mini 10K in Central Park. In true Lynette fashion, I was super early and none of my friends were there when I arrived.

I hung out around bag check for little since I didn't want to put my phone away just yet. My coach and a few teammates showed up so I hung out with them for a little, then my friend Wendy arrived (who was running her first 10K!) and we took some photos and checked our bags.

After we had all of our stuff put away, we headed to the start line which was of course 15 min away. I got corral G, because NYRR was going off of my pre-inury pace. Just before we started moving my teammate Denise appeared in my corral and we decided to run together (AKA she was going to pace me). We began running and had to weave in and out a lot on the Central Park West. There were a lot of walkers before we even hit the one mile mark which made it difficult to find our groove.

We were running at around a 9:15 pace. We skipped the first water station and thought there would be one at mile 2 but there wasn't. We booked it up our first hill and embraced going down Harlem Hill and not up it. Finally we saw the second water station and I grabbed some water to sip and tossed the rest over my head. One of the biggest reasons why I checked my phone- this race is ALWAYS hot and sometimes humid- so I knew I'd want to cool myself down.

Just after that was the 5K mark which I was surprised that we clocked a slow time for- 29:06. Next up were some rolling hills on the east side of CP. According to my watch, my 4th mile was my slowest, I fell back about 10 seconds.

At this point it was definitely hot and I was definitely breathing heavy but I knew that if I kept it up, I would be content with my time and the effort I put into the race. It was exactly what I needed after the prior week. At this point, with only two miles left, I knew I had it in the bag. I lost Denise just before the next water station where I grabbed water for my head and Gatorade to drink.

Mile 5 clocked in at around a 8:37. My watch was off by about 10-13 seconds according to official times. This mile included flying down Cat Hill.

Once I was down Cat, I knew it was over. I rounded the bend to Central Park South and saw one of my Hellgate teammates walking and grabbed her. But accidentally also left her so safe to say, I am not a good pacer. I was excited to see the 800K mark because that meant only 2 laps of the track left.

My Hellgate team was cheering at the mile 6 marker which was just enough motivation for me to push through to the finish line.

I finished in 57:42, and although that's not much, it was a minute away from my PR and my first solid race in over two years since I got injured! My average pace was 9:18.

All in all, I felt great the entire race. I'm so thankful to have been able to start with Denise who got me off to a great start. I'm excited to train through the summer and get that overdue half marathon PR in October!

Lynette

PR Intern Diaries: Meet Leahi

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend and is ready to grind. We had a fantastic weekend running the Mini 10K on Saturday (recap to come) and spending time with friends in the gorgeous weather.

To kick off the week, I want to introduce you to our newest intern, Leahi!

------

Hi all! My name is Leahi Camacho and I am a junior at Wagner College on Staten Island. I am originally from Hawaii but I have been loving the NYC life for the last 3 years. I started my internship at LNPR this past week and I have been loving it! I was put right into the action and it has allowed me to learn a ton of things in the first week alone.

One of the biggest things I learned this week in PR is it takes a HUGE amount of organization to stay on your A game. While it may seem obvious, it’s crazy to see how Lynette balances so many accounts. I know that it is going to take some serious organization this summer. I was also fortunate to be put on the allongeé account. I have learned a whole lot about a company and a type of exercise that I didn’t know about before. I did not realize how intense some of these dance exercises can really be. Although I am just starting out, there was a ton of information processed this week. Too much to keep to a blog post!

Hopefully in this internship I can get a really well rounded experience of what PR is all about. That is my goal. More specifically, I want to truly gain as much understanding as I can in one summer about this industry. I really think I can put my business and psych background to the test! I know that hands on experience in invaluable and I have been fortunate enough to work for a company that allows interns to do so.

Until next time!

Leahi

PR Intern Diaries: Jenna's Must-Haves

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend after a short albeit long weekend last week.We are kicking off a new week with our intern Jenna sharing her PR intern must-haves- aka everything that helps her have successful days.

------
Hey everyone! This week I’m here to share my intern survival kit. Being an intern isn’t always easy, and I know I wouldn’t be able to get the job done without these essentials.

My laptop

I would be completely lost without my laptop. I’m constantly on my Macbook working on spreadsheets and keeping up with our clients on social media. It’s really important for me to be able to check my email so I can keep up to date what’s happening with our clients in the press.

A planner

I actually use my laptop as a planner, but any planner is essential for an intern! Making a to-do list in my planner is the first thing Lynette has me do every morning. It helps me to make my schedule for the day and makes sure I don’t forget to do anything. I love crossing the different tasks off my planner, it helps me feel accomplished and motivates me to keep working! Keeping a planner is also super helpful because throughout the day anything can happen. You need to be on top of whats happening in the press with the clients! It’s important to keep adding and checking your to do list to make sure you don’t miss anything.

Water

When you’re working hard and getting lost in what you’re doing sometimes it’s hard to remember to stay hydrated. Keeping water by my side at all times reminds me to keep drinking throughout the day, no matter how busy it gets. Lynette puts a strong emphasis on balancing work and health. Keeping myself hydrated is one way I make sure I stay healthy and ready to keep working.

Comfortable shoes

I have a long commute to work which includes a train, a subway, and a decent amount of walking. I always make sure I wear comfortable shoes so I’m ready for the trek and don’t wear myself out. Don’t worry though, I make sure not to sacrifice fashion for comfort and find a happy balance in-between both of them!

Hair Ties

Nothing makes me feel more in work mode like pulling up my hair and getting to business! Something about putting my hair in a tight ponytail motivates me to work super hard and makes me feel like I can accomplish any task. I also have super long hair so getting the heat off my back doesn't hurt either.

------

What are your essentials that get you through the work day?

XO,
Lynette

PR Intern Diaries: Jenna

Happy Monday! It's quite gross out here in NYC which works out well for me since my legs are still tight from Saturday. No running for this girl today.

For this weeks PR Diaries, Jenna talks Wellness Wednesday, work/life balance and our client going viral.

------
This week Lynette and I grabbed teas on Wednesday and I got to talk to her about her experience in public relations. From our conversation I learned how important it is to follow your dreams and do what you love. In public relations there are so many different areas you can work in. From working at a boutique agency or a firm to working in corporate PR or consumer PR, there are endless options. I learned how important it is to try and get as much experience as possible so I can figure out where I want to end up working in the future. I loved hearing how Lynette gets to work with clients she’s truly passionate about, such as fitness companies and start ups. I hope that I can be as fortunate to be able to work in fields within PR that I’m passionate about and that excite me.

This week I learned how important it is to soak up nature and the good weather. On Wednesday when Lynette and I got teas at Gossip Coffee and got to sit on their outdoor patio. Although it was very hot, sitting outside refreshed me and gave me a new burst of energy for the rest of the work day.

This week one of Lynette Nicole PR’s clients, XO Marshmallow, got a lot of media attention! It was really exciting and really cool to see a client I’ve helped with have articles all over websites I’m familiar with and read regularly. One of the coolest things that happened was that XO Marshmallow made the front page of Guest of a Guest. I was in charge of counting all the likes, comments, and shares XO Marshmallow was getting on social media and it was so exciting to see how popular Lynette Nicole PR’s client is becoming!

Now, back to that rainy day hustle before our Leukemia and Lymphoma Fundraiser in the Hamptons on Friday night!

Brooklyn Half Marathon Recap

What a weekend! The past two days flew by. I've had the best time hanging out with my amazing teammates and some of my fabulous friends. On Saturday morning, I woke up at 3:30 AM while my friends were probably out closing down some bars to get ready to venture to Brooklyn for the Brooklyn Half Marathon.

The last time I ran this race it was a massive disaster and I wanted redemption this year.

This training cycle wasn't the best or strongest, but I did put some work in. We got to BK a wee bit too early but better safe than sorry. I met up with my Hellgate teammates and we hung out for a bit before heading to our respective corrals.

Pre-race selfie!

Of course almost as soon as we entered our corrals, it started raining. What?! That was totally not on any forecast I read. While we were waiting, my teammate introduced me to one of her friends from Harlem Runs so we chatted with her and some of her teammates until the gun went off. They were super fun and had such a positive spirit. When the gun went off I felt great and tried to keep up with one of the Harlem Runs girls. Mistake numero uno. Mile 1 = 9:20.

Necessities

After we started hitting some 8:45 paces in the second mile I knew I had to fall back or I might not even make it to Prospect Park. I also realized I had to pee and was on the hunt for a portapotty. Almost a repeat of the marathon! The next two miles I have no explanation for and they are where I REALLY went wrong.

Mile 2 - 9:15
Mile 3 - 9:04

This race was a mix of idiocracy and ambition. I know what my half PR is and I know what my body is capable of, but I haven't trained for a race in over two years. I had been putting out a few nice training runs but I got a little cocky.

I still couldn't find a bathroom that didn't have a line and I didn't want to waste any time so I just kept waiting. I am very familiar with where everything is once you get inside the park- every bathroom, water stop and med tent- thanks to my 2015 performance.

Going into the park is where I started slowing down, probably because I started hill training late.

Mile 4 - 9:31

I had been hoping to go into this race running a steady 9:30. That pace seemed reasonable as it was in between my hard and easy training run times.

What I wanted to do be doing instead of running at this point

Mile 5 - 9:37

I finally found a bathroom after mile 5 with no line so I popped off the hill to use it. This is where I started really slowing down because I lost my groove. It's also where my head was kind of like, "I'm over this, let's do something else." I tried to not have a time goal and let my legs do their thing but I am pretty competitive after all.

Mile 6 - 10:15

After I lost my groove, I had trouble getting my pace back. Everything I tried to hit my 9:30 it felt like way too much effort too early in the race. I had really wanted to sprint down Ocean Parkway but had a feeling in the park that wasn't going to happen.

Mile 7 - 8:58

And then there was the mile 7 gem. WTF! I have no idea what I was thinking running an 8:58 but I have a feeling we were going downhill. No other explanation as to why I thought it was OK to do this when I couldn't even hold the pace I wanted, 30 seconds slower. OOPS!

Venturing to shelter after it started pouring

Mile 8 - 9:31

Back to normal and on the parkway at this point. I actually forgot how much uphill the parkway has and I couldn't get my body to sprint. I felt like the course was super quiet this year and was hoping the crowd at this point would carry me to the end.

Mile 9 -10:37

And here is where my head said nope, we're done. I didn't stop/walk at all during this race (except when I stopped for the bathroom break) but I definitely started shuffling. And I wanted to walk SO badly. I also thought I was looking for mile 8 not 9 so the surprise was welcome. I also did this the last time I ran this race.

Mile 10 - 10:15

Almost there! Only a 5K left. At this point I was SO looking forward to seeing my team waiting just after mile 12.

Mile 11 - 10:32

Slowing down and REALLY considering walking. I didn't.

Mile 12 - 10:36

Yay for teammates! As soon as I saw the mile 12 marker I upped my speed and was super happy to see Hellgate, and the boardwalk in front of me. I got my pace back to a 9:30 and struggled to hold it until the end. My watch was also early so when I thought I only had 800m to go I'm pretty sure it was 1200 which made the end that much painful.

Mile 13 - 9:35

Up that stupid little ramp we go for the last .1. The numbers on my watch were moving and I booked it down the boardwalk to fight to get under 2:10.

Mile 13.1 - 2:09:21

The end! I was so happy to be done. I was definitely fighting for a lot of those miles. While I'm super disappointed with my time, I am glad I redeemed myself.

Hellgate Ladies

Now, off to train for a Fall half where I hopefully won't be putting out as an embarrassing performance as this was.

PR Intern Diaries: Meet Jenna

Happy Monday everyone! It's only natural that the weekend flies by when you have a race in Brooklyn the next and a million things on your to-do list in between. Fortunately, Lynette Nicole PR has a new summer intern who is eager to learn about PR and assist with day-to-day activities.

It's time to meet Jenna!
------
Hey everyone! My name is Jenna and I’m Lynette’s new summer intern at Lynette Nicole PR. I’m a rising junior at the Pennsylvania State University majoring in public relations with a minor in digital media analytics. This is my first internship ever and I’m really excited to break into the world of PR!

This week I learned the importance of relationships in public relations. On Wednesday, Lynette threw an editor event showcasing one of her clients, Yo Yoga!, summer yoga deck. From what I noticed, everything about the event really came down to having great relationships with those you work with. Lynette was able to get the all of the food for the event sponsored thanks to referrals by people she’s worked with before and by forging new relationships with new food vendors. I also got to see how relationships with the press are (obviously) very important. Lynette was able to get a great number of editors and writers to the event, filling the entire deck, because of her great relationships.

Keeping a good work, health and wellness balance is really important. It’s something that Lynette takes really seriously. Although we had a very chaotic Wednesday, and weren’t able to grab a green juice or head to a yoga studio, I still learned about wellness this week. This week I learned how important it is, despite how busy you are, to still give yourself some down time to recuperate so you don’t wear yourself out.

I’m really excited for my first internship ever at Lynette Nicole PR. From this internship I really hope to learn about practitioner and client relations, as I can see how closely Lynette works with all of her clients and how dedicated she is to all of them.

Stay tuned every Monday to hear more from Jenna!
